Nuclear cooling towers

Nitrogen oxides are air polluting gasses emitted by car exhausts which can cause acid rain and other damage to the environment. In a NOx analyser a sample of exhaust gas is mixed with ozone, resulting in a chemiluminescent reaction. The light produced is measured by a photomultiplier tube and the concentration of the NOx gas is determined.
